I’m looking for additional locations to place colonies of honey bees in Rockford Township.
Perhaps you have fruit trees or a large garden that would benefit from more pollinators to increase fruit set? Maybe you’ve heard that honey bee populations are declining and just want to have them on your property.
I will share some of any honey produced with you in exchange for a place to host the bees. I have extra veils, gloves, etc and would also be happy to do educational sessions with you and the bees as well. The bees are generally very docile and will forage over an area up to 3 miles around the hive.
Here are some of the considerations for hosting hives that will hopefully answer some initial questions:
- I need to be able to access the hives with a pickup truck.
- I will be accessing the hives frequently during the summer season and very little in fall/winter.
- May/June/July – ~1 or 2 times per week
- March, August/September/October – ~1 time per week
- Outside these months – almost never
- Ideally the colonies are in a position to receive sun much of the day. Especially in winter.
- Ideally there’s a wind break on the north side during the winter.
- I will never leave a mess on your property and always respect any fencing, gates, etc.
- I currently have colonies at 5 different locations and can provide references if desired.
Thanks for reading. Looking forward to hearing from you!
